Minutes Teaching Meeting 2009

Teaching Meeting 7th October 2009

1. There will be no teaching session on 24 Oct 2009. Instead, there will be a full praise and worship session, as follow-up from worship workshop.
2. There will be one transitional session in conjunction with Month of Rosary. The topic will be on "Rosary" (31 Oct 09)
   
3. Next teaching series will be: "Why am I Catholic?" - This will be a series that based on personal experience/testimony of the speakers and authentic church teaching that speaks and changes one's life. William will send the compiled list of topics suggested by teaching ministry members and come out with proposed schedule (based on availability of speaker) as well as selected topics for consideration.
   
4. Lastly, brainstorming on "teaching workshop" identified several issues that commonly encountered by teachers/preachers. They are:
• appropriate contents for teaching, avoid temptation to be relevant, personal experience
  
• walk the talk, preacher's attitude
• time management, commitment and efforts for preparation
• lifestyle and spirituality
• characteristic of teacher: teachable
• Gift, charism and calling - how to identify
• presentation skills, language, voice projection
• discernment on God's will
• continuous learning, modelling of good speaker
5. AOB:
• Christine asked if we needed a microphone. We found it not necessary for now as the room is small. Teaching ministry also agreed that the recordings of teaching sessions are very useful.
  
• It was suggested to have a vision for teaching ministry.
• Basil recommended teachers to learn from the well-known speaker and implemented what is good from their preaching styles to their talks. Watching talks together and discussion on the positive preaching method was proposed.

Teaching Meeting 13th August 2009

1. William will take over the teaching ministry coordinator starting from tonight.
2. There will be outing in 5th Sept.
3. It was proposed to have a praise and worship night for the 29th Aug.
4. The following sessions will continue from last year series on Christian Living based on the Sermon on the Mount starting from Matthew 6 onwards.

6. William will contact Priscilla and Basil.

Teaching Meeting 20th June 2009

1. We decided to continue with the session on Spiritual Growth. The schedule for teaching session has been decided as follows:
1. 20th June: Prayer (Oka)
2. 27th June: Workshop on Prayer (Maya and Maggy)
3. 4th July: No session, Parish Youth Day
4. 11th July: Scripture (William)
5. 18th July: Workshop on Lectio Divina (Basil and Priscilla)
6. 25th July: No session, Bible Sunday
7. 1st Aug: Community (Philip)
8. 8th Aug: Service (proposed: Keenan) + 9th Aug for visitation to Red Cross disabled home (Elizabeth & Anne)
   
9. 15th Aug: The Sacrament: Eucharist (proposed: Br. John)
10. 22nd Aug: Adoration (proposed: Br. John or one of the priest)
2. It was proposed to have sharing after the Workshop on Lectio Divina.
3. It was proposed to go to mass together on the 9th before visitation, and then conclude the visitation with a sharing and prayer, and maybe dinner together.
4. We also discussed about the leadership succession in the teaching ministry. Oka has asked the availability of those present to consider to be nominated as the teaching ministry coordinator. We will take time for the discernment process. Oka will contact those who do not present to talk with them about leadership succession.
